River Flood Scenario Reference - Hazard Services
Create a River Flood Scenario Reference
There are 4 primary methods to replicate a river flood scenario in Hazard Services (CAVE in practice mode). The Hazard Services jobsheets will feature option 3 using CreateRiverFloodScenario.py.
- Modify observed or forecast river data in the Hydro Time Series application. Note that modified or mocked-up real-time data for a forecast point will likely be sent to AHPS. It is strongly suggested to do real time testing on test locations cloned from forecast points.
- Set the CAVE clock to a time where the observed or forecast data will produce a watch, warning or advisory.
- Utilize the CreateRiverFloodScenario application that is available on the Software Collaboration Portal (SCP). Note that modified or mocked-up real-time data for a forecast point will likely be sent to AHPS. It is strongly suggested to do real time testing on test locations cloned from forecast points. Recommended
- Use Site Specific (SSHP) on a cloned location.
1. Use Hydro Time Series (HTS)
- Link to manual - Web
2. Use CAVE clock on recent event
-
Simply double click the time in the bottom of the CAVE window.
-
A GUI will come up that will allow you to select the time.
-
Click the “Set time” radio button to set the CAVE clock to a date/time during an event.
-
Click OK
-
Run HS as normal. The River Flood Recommender (RFR) will take the simulated time into account and recommend events based on the obs/forecast at that simulated time.
3. Use CreateRiverFloodScenario Recommended
- CreateRiverFloodScenario.py is a local app available on the SCP that can aid in creating obs/forecast series that will cause HS to recommend specific river events.
-
It is assumed that the user:
-
Is familiar with Hazard Services and the knobology/workflow
-
Is comfortable executing some very basic linux commands in a terminal environment
-
Has downloaded the application from the SCP (see local ITO for downloading).
-
-
Run CreateRiverFloodScenario.py for a test location to apply obs/forecast templates that mimic a flood scenario. See the user guide in the SCP for syntax (PDF-11-3-2018).
-
See Creating a River Flood Scenario jobsheet
4. Use Site Specific
- Once again, it is recommended to do this for test locations from forecast points that have been configured for SSHP use.
