Forecaster Winter Weather (ATAN) Jobsheets

Upgrade a WS.A with both a WW.Y and a WS.W

Purpose:

This jobsheet walks users through upgrading a winter storm watch with multiple hazards, part a winter weather advisory and part a winter storm warning.

Tasks:

Tip 1:  For a hazard event, if all zones in the hazard or hazards will be upgraded, end the hazard or hazards and create new hazards for the upgraded zones.

Setup

  1. In the GFE Perspective, ensure the Forecast Zones (optional XXX) map is loaded.
  2. Have SnowAmt, IceAccum, etc. grids loaded with canned data, if possible.
  3. Launch Hazard Services with the Winter Weather settings file.

Click linked jobsheet to first create and issue the Winter Storm Watch 

Convert some zones to a warning and some zones to an advisory

  1. End the Winter Storm Watch 
    1. Select the WS.A in the console or spatial editor (the console entry will be highlighted in blue).
    2. Right-click on the hazard in the console and select End This
    3. Click Propose on the HID.
  2. Make some zones a Winter Weather Advisory
    1. With the HID still displayed, select Hazard Services Maps → Forecast Zones or Forecast Zones XXX.
    2. Left-click on the zones to be included in the WW.Y.
    3. Right-click to end the selection.
    4. Select Winter Weather Advisory (WW.Y) as the Hazard Type.
    5. Adjust the valid time, as needed.
    6. Select any additional CTAs and Impacts in the HID.
    7. Click Propose.
  3. Make the remaining zones a Winter Storm Warning
    1. Return to the Spatial Editor and left-click on the zones for the WS.W
    2. Right-click to end the selection.
    3. Select Winter Storm Warning (WS.W) as the Hazard Type.
    4. Adjust the valid times, as needed.
    5. Select any additional CTAs and Impacts in the HID.
    6. Click Propose.
      1. At this point, you should have a Hazards grid in GFE that is just the WW.Y and WS.W with no WS.A and no overlapping hazard areas.
  4. Issue
    1. Preview.
    2. Verify output for the 2 segments is in keeping with the GFE SnowAmt, etc., grids.
    3. Issue All → Issue.
  5. Cancel the Winter Weather Advisory and the Winter Storm Warning
    1. Click Shift and select the WW.Y and WS.W in the Hazard Services Console (they will both turn blue in the console).
    2. Right-click and select End 2 Selected Issued
      .
      1. The HID launches.
    3. Select Ending Option on both tabs.
    4. Propose.
    5. Preview.
    6. Issue All → Issue.
