Drafting Multiple Hazards in Hazard Services
Purpose:
This jobsheet should help new forecasters with the Hazard Services feature of drafting multiple hazard events.Tasks:
AT-A-GLANCE:
-
What? Hazard Services (V4) allows forecasters to draft multiple hazards at once. Previously in WarnGen a forecaster would need to work on the current polygon before creating a new one. Therefore, Hazard Services allows much more flexibility in the warning process.
Follow the steps below for more detailed guidance.
-
To draft multiple hazards at once, open up Hazard Services. Select the Convective Filter Status icon (cloud with lightning bolt).
Then from the Console select the Storm Track Tool.
-
The storm track dot will appear on screen with the Storm Track Tool Dialog menu. You may select any convective short-fused hazard type, however for this jobsheet we will select Tornado Warning (TO.W) and for One Storm.
-
Fill out the information in the HID, including details about the current threat and CTAs.
-
Adjust the polygon of the hazard to your preference, tracking the threat and projected threat area.
-
To demonstrate the ability of Hazard Services to allow multiple hazards drafted, now click on the Storm Track Tool again and follow Steps 1 through 4 for one or more additional storms.
-
You will end up with multiple hazards that have statuses of PENDING. You may then propose or issue the pending hazard events by holding ctrl+left click on each hazard row in the console then right clicking.
-
The Product Editor should display with all the hazards you selected at the top as tabs. You will also notice that the Issue button at the bottom also contains how many products you will be issuing at once. In this example it is Issue(4) because four hazards were selected.
NOTE: There is one caveat to issuing multiple hazards within a minute of each other. If issued within a minute of each other the NWS website may not display all issued hazards. This is due to an issue in the legacy server-side code. -
If you need to remove a pending hazard, you may do so by highlighting one or multiple hazards from the console and right clicking to bring up the options menu. From this menu select Delete This to delete the single hazard or Delete N Selected to delete all the highlighted hazards.
