Overview:

  • With 16.1.1, the default all-tilts navigation changed on the extra 0.5 degree SAILS tilts to where the up arrow on the extra 0.5 degree SAILS tilts steps to the next highest available tilt for that volume scan, and the most recent frame shortcuts step to the most recent tilt, regardless of the more recent time stamps on the extra 0.5 degree SAILS tilts.
    • The vertical navigation is like GR2 Analyst

Refresher Commands:

  • Loading - select an all tilts product from a radar menu
    • The Radar Display Controls from the Tools menu contains a toggle to revert to the pre 16.1.1 behavior (not commonly used, less intuitive)
  • Navigation Controls - With "Enable SAILS Frame Coordinator" selected (default)
    • Right arrow – next time step of current tilt
    • Left arrow – previous time step of current tilt
    • Up arrow – next highest tilt available in a volume scan (top of volume scan will step to bottom)
    • Down arrow – next lowest tilt available in a volume scan (bottom of volume scan will step to top)
    • Ctrl + right arrow – most recent tilt, not using AWIPS time stamp
    • Ctrl + left arrow – oldest lowest tilt
    • Ctrl + up arrow – highest tilt for volume scan displayed
    • Ctrl + down arrow – lowest tilt for the volume scan displayed
    • Shift + Ctrl + up arrow – highest tilt for volume scan displayed
    • Shift + Ctrl + down arrow – lowest tilt for the volume scan displayed
  • With "Enable SAILS Frame Coordinator" deselected (pre 16.1.1 behavior with extra SAILS tilt as single tilt volume scan)
    • Right arrow – next time step of current tilt
    • Left arrow – previous time step of current tilt
    • Up arrow – next highest tilt available in a volume scan, except on 0.5 degree SAILS tilt where it will not change
    • Down arrow – next lowest tilt available in a volume scan, except on 0.5 degree SAILS tilt where it will not change
    • Ctrl + right arrow – most recent tilt, but treats extra 0.5 degree SAILS tilts as more recent than all higher tilts in a volume scan
    • Ctrl + left arrow – oldest tilt
    • Ctrl + up arrow – highest tilt for volume scan displayed, treats 0.5 degree SAILS tilt as single tilt volume scan
    • Ctrl + down arrow – lowest tilt for volume scan displayed, treats 0.5 degree SAILS tilt as single tilt volume scan
    • Shift + Ctrl + up arrow – highest tilt for volume scan displayed
    • Shift + Ctrl + down arrow – lowest tilt for the volume scan displayed

Usage Tips

  • New default is generally more intuitive, but you might want to pay attention to the extra 0.5 degree SAILS tilts.
    • Note the "SAILS" text label and the different time stamp to identify when SAILS tilts are going to be newer than the second tilt at the beginning of the volume scan.

Limitations

  • Extra 0.5 degree SAILS tilts are newer than the second tilt at the beginning of the volume scan, so there can be some slight vertical continuity issues (same as in GR2 Analyst)
