Load a Horizontal Reflectivity Cross-Section Image Product Using the Volume Browser

Purpose:

This task demonstrates how to use the AWIPS-2 Volume Browser to generate a horizontal reflectivity cross-section.

Tasks:

  1. For pre-21.4.1 AWIPS builds, place your Home tool from the Tools menu to your radar (already done in previous jobsheet in creating vertical cross section) and then start with a clear main pane. This step is no longer needed in 21.4.1 or later builds.
  2. From the Volume menu, select Browser.
  3. In the Volume Browser window, left-click the pull-down menu to the right of the Tools menu (by default says "Plan View", but may be “Cross Section” from previous task) and select Plan View.
  4. In the Sources panel: from the Volume menu select the desired radar source. In pre-21.4.1 builds there is a generic Radar menu that will use the Home tool to identify which radar to use. In 21.4.1, the individual local radars are available directly in the Radar menu.
  5. In the Fields panel: from the Radar menu select Reflectivity.
  6. In the Planes panel: from the Hgt menu select 1km AGL.
  7. Left-click on the Load button at the bottom of the Volume Bowser window.
    • For the local 17.3.4 WES-2 Bridge builds, an image will come up when loading.
    • For operational AWIPS builds, the Volume Browser loads a contour product, you need to right click on the text legend for the contour product and load as image to obtain a radar image.
  8. Task Complete!
