Load NSHARP into your CAVE Display

Purpose:

This task covers the different ways you can launch NSHARP within the D-2D perspective in CAVE. Note that there is an additional way to launch NSHARP using the National Centers perspective that will not be covered here.

Tasks:

  1. Launch NSHARP by using one of the following methods:
    1. Method 1: From the Upper Air menu, select a sounding from the RAOB section.
      • An NSHARP Skew-T and NSHARP(D2D) buttons control display will load in a new NsharpEditor editor tab in CAVE.
      • If your site does not have a primary RAOB sounding, left-click on Local from the RAOB section and select a sounding.
    2. Method 2:
      1. From the Volume menu, select Browser. This will launch the Volume Browser GUI.
      2. In the Volume Browser GUI, left-click on the menu just to the right of the Tools menu (e.g. “Plan view” if the previous use was Plan view) and select Sounding.
        • Note how the options under Sources, Fields, and Planes change when you select the Sounding option.
      3. Under Sources: from Volume menu, select a model (e.g., RAP40) that is available (denoted by green box).
      4. Under Fields: from the Thermo menu select Sounding.
        • This may have automatically pre-populated when you selected Sounding from the Volume Browser menu
      5. Under Planes: from the Points menu, select the location where you want the model sounding from (e.g., “Sounding A”).
        • You can move your points’ locations at any time from another pane before you click Load to load the point sounding.
      6. To load your product, left-click the Load button at the bottom of the Volume Browser GUI.
        • An NSHARP Skew-T and NSHARP(D2D) buttons control display will load in a new NsharpEditor editor tab in CAVE.
        • The model data for point soundings loaded for Volume sources under the Sources part of the Volume Browser are interpolated from the horizontal model layers and therefore do not contain the full vertical resolution of the model.
    3. Method 3:
      1. From the Maps menu, select Sounding Locs pullout menu and select a model sounding locations type (e.g. NAM).
      2. Zoom in to the Sounding Locs map and identify a location where the full vertical-resolution point soundings are generated (e.g. END).
      3. From the Tools menu, select Points.
      4.  Left-click and hold on a point in the CAVE editor (e.g. Point “C”) and drag the point to a sounding location.
      5. From the Volume menu, select Browser. This will launch the Volume Browser GUI.
      6. In the Volume Browsers GUI, left-click on the menu just to the right of the Tools menu (e.g. “Plan view” if the previous use was Plan view) and select Sounding.
      7. Under Sources: from the Point menu, select a model (e.g., “NAMBufr”) that is available (denoted by green box).
      8. Under Fields: from the Thermo menu, select Sounding.
      9. Under Planes: from the Points menu,  select D2D Points and select the point you moved earlier (e.g., “Sounding C”).
        • You can move your points locations at any time from another pane before you click Load to load the point sounding.
      10. To load your product, left-click on the Load button at the bottom of the Volume Browser GUI.
        • An NSHARP Skew-T and NSHARP(D2D) buttons control display will load in a new NsharpEditor editor tab in CAVE.
