Asset Publisher - VLab Showcase
Content: Asset Publisher
What is an Asset Publisher?
The Asset Publisher portlet provided by Liferay is a "mega-portlet" which provides methods for presenting content from multiple sources (aka multiple "assets"). It is extremely flexible and configurable such that it can perform the duties of various other portlets. The Asset Publisher can do many things. Only a few are showcased here.
Assets are defined by Liferay to include:
- Web Content
- Forum Posts
- Blog entries
- Wiki entries
- Documents
- Images
What is it good for?
An Asset Publisher is capable of presenting multiple assets in the same portlet, which can be useful for things like a "What's New" section or a topic-specific aggregate section in your community. Also, an Asset Publisher can be used as a substitute for other portlets when (for various reasons) you just can't get that other portlet to do what you want it to (such as a basic Web Content display portlet).
How Do I Use It?
The VLab User Guide has a section for adding an Asset Publisher to your community page.
Because the Asset Publisher is so configurable, reading the Liferay Guidance for Asset Publishers could be useful as well. (It is more comprehensive.)
