Portlet Borders - VLab Showcase
Look & Feel: Portlet Borders
What are Portlet Borders?
The Portlet Borders are the lines around the rectangular portlets, in Liferay. Although Liferay is used as a web framework for their web page by many private companies, out of the box, Liferay pages can look "blocky" (like in VLab) and not like modern web pages. One of the big reasons for this blockiness is the prominence of the Portlet Borders.
There are ways to circumvent this blocky appearance.
What is it good for?
Most VLab community pages could benefit from methods used to avoid the blocky visual nature of the Liferay portlet approach web framework.
How Do I Use It?
A few tips to de-emphasize the rectangular nature of portlets follow. These are suggestions only.
- Access the portlet's "Look and Feel Configuration" --> under the "Application Decorators" section --> select "Barebone".
- Do not use a background color for the portlet, so that whatever is underneath it in the stack will be seen.
- Use the "Freeform" Layout type (for Layout pages, which is what most VLab pages are).
