Wiki - VLab Showcase
Communication: Wiki
What is a Wiki?
A Wiki is intended to be a collaborative effort at constructing and maintaining reference documentation. The intent is to leverage collective knowledge by allowing a community of users to collectively construct and manage the wiki. A VLab Wiki is still focused on managing and presenting reference-type materials, but may not be quite as open to collective knowledge as the original idea for a wiki, as it may be only editable by community administration (but can still be configured to have a wide variety of access levels).
(For interesting details, see the wikipedia entry for wiki.)
What is it good for?
A Wiki is good for managing and presenting information that will likely be accessed as reference materials frequently by the user base. Good examples of Wiki content are: smaller User Guides, How-To-s, glossaries, and descriptive step-by-step instructions.
In VLab Communities, because Lilferay provides for many options when managing reference materials, a wiki may not be as useful as, say, an Accordion Navigator (using Web Content). A Wiki would be useful when the user base is accustomed to using and interacting with wikis from past experience.
How Do I Use It?
Liferay provides a Wiki portlet, which can be added to any page. The Wiki section of the VLab User Guide provides additional detail. (need link)
