▌MARINE PROGRAM

The NWS Marine program focuses on all operational concerns affecting oceanic and maritime observations and forecasts, including sea ice. The internal stakeholders include Ocean Prediction Center, National Hurricane Center, Central Pacific Hurricane Center, and the regions and Weather Forecast Offices with marine, oceanic, or navigable lake forecasting responsibility, as well as the supporting development units such as Environmental Modeling Center, and NWS Headquarter.

STI leads subject matter experts on potential benefits of high frequency radar for detecting surface waves and currents, and  manages incorporation of Lake Champlain modeling research into the Great Lakes Wave Model.

▌TSUNAMI PROGRAM

The NWS Tsunami program coordinates and oversees detection, warning and modeling of tsunami events regardless of source.  Internal stakeholders include the National and Pacific Tsunami Warning Centers (Alaska and Hawaii, respectively), WFO San Juan, and the OAR research laboratories supporting the Warning Centers. External stakeholders include all the Pacific and Atlantic countries for which NWS has international commitments to warn tsunami events, United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization/ Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission.

STI leads subject matter experts on potential detection of tsunami triggers from ionospheric travelling disturbance observations.
