        NextGen IT/Web Services Project Description

This project will establish an operational NextGen IT Web Services capability by Q1 FY16 by building upon a recently delivered NextGen Web Services prototype capability. This prototype implements selected functionality and delivers an initial set of weather products to support the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) complementary Enhanced Weather Information Network Server (WINS) Dissemination risk reduction program, or simply “EWD”. By Q1 FY2016, this project will:

  • Complete development and implementation of NextGen IT Web Services functional requirements to support operations1
  • Deliver an expanded set of weather products to the FAA’s Common Support Services – Weather (CSS‐Wx) System, the FAA’s operational follow up to EWD2
  • Establish NWS Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS)‐II Data Delivery (DD) as a Data Consumer and deliver weather products required by AWIPS DD
  • Support operational dissemination services provided by the NWS Aviation Weather Center’s (AWC) www.Aviation Weather.gov including:3
    • Aviation Digital Data Service (ADDS)
    • World Area Forecast System (WAFS) Internet File System (WIFS)
    • International Flight Folder Documentation (IFFDP)
