NOAA Weather Radio
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Weather Radio All Hazards (NWR) is a nationwide network of radio stations broadcasting continuous weather information directly from the nearest National Weather Service (NWS) office using broadcast Radio Frequency technology. NWR is a successful multi-mission program that has served the nation since the mid-1950s by broadcasting official Weather Service warnings, watches, forecasts and other hazard information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
NWR is essential to fulfilling the NOAA/NWS mission to protect life and property and enhance the national economy. Local, state and federal government officials, emergency managers, and first responders rely on NWR for weather-related emergency readiness, preparation and response. NWR supports the commercial broadcast industry as a source to activate the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and is recognized by Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the American Red Cross as an emergency preparedness toolkit essential. NWR is being incorporated into a variety of consumer electronic devices, mobile platforms, and used in maritime and aviation safety planning.
Additionally, through NWR, NWS is able to fulfill Public Alerts and Warnings responsibilities set forth by authorities in partnership with FEMA and other U.S. government agencies as outlined in the Executive Order 13407, the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, U.S. Federal Response Framework.
