Viewing the Snow Squall Parameter

General

The SNSQ parameter is available in real-time from several sources. For  WFOs, it is baselined within AWIPS D2D. Look in the volume browser under the “Winter” menu. The SNSQ parameter will be available for any deterministic models covering your forecast area. Online sources include the RAP-based SPC mesoanalysis for current analyses, or the St. Louis University CIPS page for GFS and NAM forecasts.

Snow Squall 4-Panel Model Diagnostic Procedure

An AWIPS D2D 4-panel diagnostic procedure is available for download here (xml file). The screen capture below indicates the fields that are displayed in each panel. You may also want the CAPE color map, to highlight low wintertime values down to 10 J/kg. You can download the colormap file here.
