Map overlays do not load

Resolved with code rollback

Resolution: 12/1/2022 with script change and clearing browser's cache.

Suggestion: Clear your browser's cache

Discussion: GSL evaluated this issue

1st, clear your browser's cache.
2nd, a system approach to Not use WAVE's cache of images is to make a custom hyperlink in order to force an image or animation to be generated anew. In other words, to change something slightly in an existing link makes it a custom link and the map overlay will display as expected. The suggestion was a quick adaptation but not a core fix. Code fix was available on 12/1/2022.

All these force a redraw, then the map overlays worked in gifMaker and the other hyperlinks. Change, for example:
  • the citydensity, for example, from 5 to 6
  • thickness value
  • a lat or lon value for a custom domain, is regionName=custom

Issue on 09/14/2022 GSL central data group had an outage starting at midnight.
This meant no data for the first 12+ hours. Data resumed late on 9/14/2022.

Issue default ESRI map background in WAVE is not showing up

A forecaster in the field working on a fire reported that the default ESRI map background in WAVE is not showing up on custom drawn areas, it just changes to a null gray background.

ESRI stopped supporting ESRI_Imagery_World_2D (formerly Terrain option Imagery 1).
WAVE's default terrain is now World_Imagery.

The ESRI terrain value ESRI_Imagery_World_2D is no longer supported by ESRI as of late July 2022.

For all WAVE links with this reference, the terrain value needs to be changed.

____________________________________________________
Solution for the UI: select Terrain: World Imagery (formerly called Imagery 2)

Solution for QuickLinks & Presentation Links:
replace
      &terrain=ESRI_Imagery_World_2D
with
      &terrain=World_Imagery
___________________________________________________

The available terrain choices

&terrain=off                                 -- Off
&terrain=World_Physical_Map  -- World physical
&terrain=World_Shaded_Relief -- Shaded relief
&terrain=World_Terrain_Base   -- Shaded relief (white)
&terrain=World_Imagery           -- World Imagery
&terrain=NatGeo_World_Map  -- Labeled Map
&terrain=World_Street_Map     -- Labeled Map2

Note:  Chrome may need to be restarted, or clear its cache, to see the ESRI Terrain load as expected.

Issue AIRMET WAVE graphic not updating in WAVE

See notes below, Resolved 8/1/2022 ...

When WAVE G-Airmets are a problem in WAVE, please go to https://aviationweather.gov/dataserver/example?datatype=gairmet and select start and end times in ISO 8601 date/time format. This is the method for WAVE to access the AWC G-Airmets from aviationweather.gov.

If this AWC API request fails, we see a response <error>Internal server error</error> meaning WAVE cannot not download the data needed to produce Airmet imagery. There is currently no alternative data  source.

WAVE G-Airmets are updating now.

The AWC API data service for retrieving the graphical Airmet has resumed. It was intermittent and not reliable for most of last week. There had been a problem with AWC website for access to the database;

One person speculated by looking at an SQL database that "any value outside of a range from -128 to 127, causes a server error. They are going to see about making sure the freezing level lines are not so detailed" as to exceed those boundaries of -128 to 127, if this was the issue.

AIRMET WAVE graphic was not updating in WAVE
A data access problem cropped up on Monday, 7/25/2022. G-AIRMETs are available. However, WAVE got an error trying to download the data following the approach we have been utilizing for some time, https://www.aviationweather.gov/adds/dataserver_current/httpparam?dataSource=gairmets&requestType=retrieve&format=xml&startTime=2022-08-01T12:00:00Z&endTime=2022-08-02T12:00:00Z

The Aviation Weather Center was contacted. We see current status (https://aviationweather.gov/gairmet)
