The Digital and Graphical Information Support Branch (AFS 13) oversees the National Weather Service's Collaborative Forecast Process and National Blend of Models requirement. AFS 13 provides national oversight of services-based requirements for NWS' web presence. In addition to this, AFS 13 provides programmatic execution of the national service change process and oversees product and information dissemination policy.

Analysis and Forecast Branch (AFS11)

WHAT?

● Collect field’s needs, identify forecasting gaps, and develop field requirements for analysis and forecasting tools.
● Develop and implement a vetting process to recommend innovations to improve analysis and forecast capabilities to meet the needs of NWS forecasters.


HOW?

● Find, verify, and validate new or improved tools and techniques addressing forecasters’ needs.
● Recommend which tools and techniques for short-term weather forecasts should be targeted and implemented to field offices for operational use in collaboration with Modeling, Testbeds and Research to Operations (R2O) Teams of the Office of Science and Technology Integration (STI) as well as NCEP’s Environmental Modeling Center (EMC) to implement tools and techniques for operational use. 


WHY?

● Utilize new or upgraded forecasting innovations and tools created both internally and externally within the weather enterprise, academia, or other federal agencies.
● Help NWS forecasters improve short-term weather forecasts and warning services.
