Welcome to the NWS Office of Facilities (OF) public 1STOP community.

The Office of Facilities Management is responsible for managing the portfolio of real properties, owned and leased, for the NWS. Responsibilities include planning for maintenance, upgrades, physical improvements at NWS Forecast Offices and Centers; managing a facility assessment program to identify structural facility condition issues as well as building system issues and planning capital improvements; maintaining compliance with Federal law and national and local building codes; and developing holistic facilities plans and analyses that identify cost-effective methods for repairing, relocating, and disposing of NWS facilities.

The NWS Office of Facilities:

  • develops policies and standards for facilities modernization and maintenance, safety and environmental compliance, prepares and defends budgets, maintains records and performs analyses
  • formulates and manages major facilities projects affecting WFOs, RFCs and National Centers, and manages construction of new facilities, and retrofit, expansion, and relocation of previously-built facilities
  • plans for and ensures disposal project execution for vacated real properties
  • establishes national level safety and environmental compliance programs, policies, procedures, and performs analyses to optimize life-cycle costs and performance
  • maintains facility models and maintenance management systems
  • manages facilities activities through collaboration and coordination with the regions and field offices
  • serves as the focal point within the Facilities budget portfolio for portfolio and budget planning, milestone integration and provision of internal controls.
