LLL product reaching IA State text archive

Youngling Posts: 2 Join Date: 6/22/17 Recent Posts

Hi Everyone,

Apologies if this has already been addressed at some point. We recently discovered that our LLL product (LLLOKX) is being stored in the Iowa State text archive (for example, http://mesonet.agron.iastate.edu/wx/afos/p.php?pil=LLLOKX&e=202112131647). We have only started using IRIS with any regularity over the last year or so, but my understanding was that this product is supposed to remain internal for QC, etc. Is there a way to stop this product from being picked up and stored on the web? I tried adding it to our afos2awips blacklist, but that didn't change anything.

We are not the only office with our LLL product appearing online, it happens for at least one of our neighbors as well.

Thanks,

Faye

WHOA... That's not great. We have sent pre-public information this way, trusting that it would not leave the NOAA network, and we see the same behavior here at DLH.

Hi Faye and Joe,

It's always been that way. The route from IDP to AWIPS is via the SBN, and Iowa State archives everything. LLL and WRK products use the same WMO designator to
indicate these are non-official work products.

Thanks,
Matt

Hi all,

I got in contact with my contact at ISU about the LLL. He already removes WRK products from the public list, and will now exclude LLL from the public facing page as well. They are still archived, but it would require some work to find them.

Hope this helps,
Craig

You can take the dissemination guy out of WRH, but you can't take dissemination out of his blood.  :)  Thanks Craig Schmidt!! I sometimes miss those good old days!
