ForecastBuilder Hanging Before Populate Step

We're having issues with ForecastBuilder hanging up when it tries to go to the Populate step. It stalls on the step where it's trying to create grid highlights from Edit Retention, and never advances to the Populate step. If we hit the Continue button a couple of times, it will move on to the Analyze/Adjust step, but the Populate step is skipped and never appears. We had the monthly AWIPS security patch installed this morning and have completed the reboot after that. Everything worked fine before that. We're on version 11.1 of ForecastBuilder.

Looking at the terminal output, I think it's looking for information about previously initialized or edited grids but isn't able to find that, and is then hanging. I'm pretty sure our reboot following the security patch install was occurring when our typical ForecastBuilder cron should have run this morning, so that was missed and could be causing these issues. I ran ForecastBuilder in Practice Mode and it works fine but I'm guessing it isn't looking for previously initialized/edited grids like in operational mode. I've attached screenshots of where it's hanging up and the terminal output.

Any ideas on how to remedy this?

Thanks,

Kurt

Kurt,

The first thing I would look at is file permissions. I'd check the permissions on the files in  /localapps/data/ForecastBuilderEditRetention/. Security updates seem to mess with file permissions more than you'd think, at least from my experience.

If that doesn't work, maybe some of the pickle files got corrupted somewhere? You could go into /localapps/data/ForecastBuilderEditRetention/ and remove the *_cPickle.gz files. That will wipe out all saved grid edits, so you'll lose whatever you had in there, but it should fix the problem if it's really a corrupted file.

Thanks,

Ryan,

Thanks for the help! We checked the file permissions on the files in  /localapps/data/ForecastBuilderEditRetention/ and they looked okay.

However, we noticed that one of the pickle files in there appeared to be empty (zero file size). We removed that file (/localapps/data/ForecastBuilderEditRetention/PIH_wind_last_initialization_cPickle.gz) and that fixed it.

Thank you very much for pointing us in the right direction!

Kurt
