Interpolating Pot Grids on Weather Grids Step

Youngling Posts: 7 Join Date: 6/19/15 Recent Posts

We are on FB version 10.4.15

There seems to be a procedure in the "Weather Grids Step" that interpolates any of the Pot grids (that have spaces between them).

The first image I'm attaching shows my dummy Pot grids (PotFog, PotSevere, PotSmoke) on the "Non-Precipitating PoT Grids Step"

There are breaks in the Pot fields during the time range I've selected.   Then, when I get to the "Weather Grids Step" and run, it interpolates between these periods for all 3 Pot elements (shown in the second image attached).

The only way to get around this is to make sure there are a beginning and ending grid for these elements that are both zero, so everything in between will be zero  as well.

I'm thinking (hoping) this is a bug that can be corrected.

Thanks,

Brian

Brian,

Can you check your GFE setting for Missing Data Mode (GFE menu>Editing Preferences>Missing Data Mode)? If it is set to "create" that would be the issue. That will also cause issues with any procedure that reads the hazard grids (including ForecastBuilder) as it will try to interpolate your hazards! ForecastBuilder itself isn't trying to interpolate...it is a function of GFE reading those grids with that set to "create".

Thanks!

Justin,

Yes, my "Missing Data Mode" is set to Create.  I've never adjusted this setting before.  Is it set in a GFE configuration file?

It isn't just me with this issue, others at our office have had this issue and at least one other Forecaster (that I can see right now) has the same setting for Missing Data Mode.

Brian, I believe that can be set in your GFE config files. Other offices in ER have noted this issue as some ER tools seem to be built around having it set to create. There is nothing we can do with the code to avoid this problem in ForecastBuilder, but we have opened a ticket with Raytheon to make this adjustable within procedures, which would solve this issue entirely.

Yes, Justin, I do see the config setting.  In the Base GFE config file it is set to "Stop"

In our office Site config file it is set to "Create"

I guess in the mean time, I'll just tell Forecasters to either set Missing Grids Mode to "Skip"  or to create zero PoT grids between the time range where no PoT elements are wanted.

Thanks for you help Justin!
