Introduction

The Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) Technical Library contains news, information, documentation, briefings, and FAQs about the AWIPS/AWIPS II system in use at the National Weather Service (NWS).

Content will be refreshed as it becomes available.  It is recommended that interested parties use a web browser plug-in to alert them of content updates to this page.

Documentation

Some AWIPS II documentation may be found by clicking the "Document Library" tab at the top of this page.

However, plenty of the AWIPS II documentation is release-specific.  That documentation is made available with each release's binaries and source code.  See the "AWIPS II Software Downloads" section below for the link to the download portal.

AWIPS II Software Downloads

All major releases of the AWIPS II software are made available for download to the public.  Two proprietary components of AWIPS II (binLightning decoder and FSI) have been removed from the public version of AWIPS II.  The public version of AWIPS II is made available without restriction -- the downloader is free to use, modify, and distribute this software as they see fit.  In essence, the software is considered to be in the "public domain".

Briefings

Some AWIPS II briefings may be found by clicking the "Document Library" tab at the top of this page.  There is a "Briefings" folder at the top level -- that folder contains the available AWIPS II briefings.
