presentation, please visit the VLab Forum page and see the
"View It" section for the talk.
Recall that the January 2025 VLab Forum will occur on the 23rd, at
1:00 - 2:00 PM (EST) and features a presentation titled
"Probabilistic Verification of Calibrated CDFs". The talk
is being given by John L Wagner who is a Meteorologist in the
Meteorological Development Laboratory's Digital Forecast Services
Division in Silver Spring, MD. We hope you can attend.
To participate in the forum, please register
for the webinar.
Abstract:
Cumulative Distribution Functions (CDFs) are used to express the
expected error of calibrated probabilistic forecast systems. This
year, the MDL Verification Team will introduce probabilistic
verification scores of CDFs to the Verification Viewer. These new
scores will measure the accuracy, reliability, and quality of
calibrated CDFs from the National Blend of Models and the Weather
Prediction Center. In this talk, we will discuss what these new
scores are and how they should be used to assess the quality of
probabilistic forecasts.
