Thin Client

Thanks for putting this Wiki together! Is the Windows thin client available anywhere? I keep seeing references but can't find the actual install.

Rob,

The Thin Client source code is contained in the ADE download, found by clicking "AWIPS II Software Download" in the grey bar near the top of this community.  The Thin Client rpm(s) may be found at the same location.

The Thin Client Windows software uses the same source code as you'll find in the ADE, however you will need to build it on your own.  The .msi and .exe files are not provided.

Hope this helps...

RE: Thin Client

Thanks... Is there a goal to creating an .exe or .msi? Or is there a way to do that on my side?

RE: Thin Client

Jim,
I checked the version 14.1.1 and 14.2.1 ,but still can't find the "thin client" in both ADE folders , can you show me the relative path of the software in that server?
    Thanks

I took at look in the 14.2.1 ADE and confirmed that it's in there.  Untar the ADE tar file, open up awips2-ade-baseline-SOURCES.jar, and you'll find com.raytheon.uf.viz.thinclient.*

Update:  Please see the FAQ for updated information on the Thin Client .msi and .exe files for Windows.  The FAQ is accessible from the Wiki (on the menubar).

RE: Thin Client

Thanks for the info - is there anything on how to localize for a location in the Windows format? It doesn't appear to resemble the Linux method.

There is no need to localize per se on the Windows (client) side.  When you connect the Windows client to a server on the AWIPS (linux/server) side, the localizations available to the server will be offered to the client.  CAVE->Preferences->Localization should help here.

RE: Thin Client

Hi,
I just set up the Thin Client on my Windows7 32bit OS. I receive the initial Cave Splash screen however the connection preferences window opens and says the connection to the local host 9851 is refused. I am very new to this and can use any assistance you can give. I am really hoping to get this working before the coming severe weather season. Thanks.

RE: Thin Client

Carl - the thin client is simply a "lighter" way to connect to an AWIPS2 server. It sounds like you don't have an AWIPS2 server running emoticon You'll need to set one up with a NOAAPORT dish or something similar and then use the thin client to connect to it.

Rob,

The source code for the Windows version of Thin Client is the same as the Linux source code provided with the ADE.  Although the scripts to create the Windows .msi and .exe files are not available, the .msi/.exe files themselves are available.  Both of these files...along with the ADE...may be downloaded via the "AWIPS II Software Download" link on the dark grey menubar near the top of this site.

RE: RE:Thin Client

Thanks James, it wasn't available when I first posted. The issue we're running into now is that the only public servers use Unidata 14.2.1 and there appear to be some compatibility issues.

Rob,

I think there's an issue on your end where this message keeps getting posted to the forum.  Since the text is identical to the post that was answered a while ago, I'm assuming that you're not still looking for an answer to this.  If I'm mistaken, please let me know.

No, if you look at the text you'll see it's all messed up. And I don't have access to this as an email forum - only the website as an anonymous user. It strongly resembles those "pingback" bots that find a blog and use the pingback feature to mess around... And I see "allow pingbacks" is an option on the forum - I'll make sure  to uncheck that box in the future emoticon

Thanks for the info, I wasn't aware of that.  I'll look in to disabling that selection by default.  For now, I went back and edited each of the posts and unselected the "Allow Pingbacks" option.  Hopefully that will take care of the issue for now.

Turning off the pingback option didn't stop the automated replies from showing up, so I'm locking this thread.  If there are further Thin Client questions, please start a new thread.  Thanks! -- Jim
