Juliana-Day 2

Considering this part of the course, salinity, temperature and chlorophyll are important for my project. The species that I am going to work have different niche widths. Mustelus henlei is distributed from the southern United States to Peru and Mustelus californicus is endemic to the Gulf of California. For this reason, I consider that for the two species the global AQUA-MODIS data with a monthly temporality from 2002 to the present are the best option.

Initially I considered the option of VIIRS because of its spatial resolution, but for the area it is equal to that of AQUA and it only has data from 2012, so I had to discard it.

Hi Juliana,

Another option if you want to go further back in time is the OC-CCI dataset. it combines all main ocean color sensors to have a longer coherent time series. Unfortunately, it's not updated every day, but every 6 months. I thas the same spatial resolution as MODIS and VIIRS.
The latest version goes from sept. 1997 to the end to 2020:

Juliana -

I suggest you reconsider using MODIS chl data.  The sensor is very old, and well past its design life and the quality of the data has been degrading for years.  The datastream will be discontinued in January. I suggest you use the OC-CCI dataset (https://coastwatch.pfeg.noaa.gov/erddap/griddap/pmlEsaCCI50OceanColorMonthly.graph) which merges data from different sensors and provides a continuous dataset from 1997 to (relatively) present
