WSUP Viewer v4.0 was released on 9/30/2021. Please see version notes below.

New Features:

  • The Chrome Adobe Acrobat extension seems to degrade WSUP performance. To avoid this issue, we recommend disabling the extension by entering "chrome://extensions/" into the address bar, toggling the slider in the Adobe Acrobat extension box, and restarting Chrome.

  • Map Display:

    • WSUP now displays NDFD grids for elements produced by WFOs in the CONUS, Alaska, Guam, Hawaii, Oceanic, and Puerto Rico. Day 1-3 NDFD grids are available every 30 minutes for the CONUS and every 60 minutes elsewhere. Day 4-7 grids are included for NDFD issuances at 00z, 06z, 12z, 18z, and 22z. Weather in Context (WIC) is available for MaxT, MinT, and daily QPF accumulation forecast data.

    • Most elements now have optional color curves. Color curves from NDFD, WPC, and the NWS Color Curve Working Group can be selected by clicking on the colorbar along the top of the map. The default color curve is generally set to match NDFD. The default range of values varies by season where appropriate.

    • The image loading process for multiple hours of grids can now be interrupted.  This happens implicitly when the user selects a different set of images or image options before loading is complete, or explicitly when the user clicks Cancel along the top menu. It is no longer necessary to wait to submit new requests for images. Image loading that has been explicitly canceled can be restarted by clicking Resume along the top menu.

    • New NBM elements:

      • QMD PoPs (4.0 and 4.1) for Alaska, CONUS, Oceanic, and Puerto Rico

      • Probabilistic 48- and 72-hr QPF for specific amounts (4.1) in Alaska, CONUS, Oceanic, and Puerto Rico

    • GIS overlays:

      • Live fire perimeters (new)

      • Hydrologic Unit (new)

      • Public forecast zones (updated)

  • Point Vis:

    • Current NDFD forecasts can now be shown on NBM displays via a new “Current NDFD forecasts” toggle button. The most recent NDFD forecast available on digital.mdl.nws.noaa.gov is shown for all NBM init times. Forecasts from prior NDFD issuances cannot be accessed this way.

    • Weather in Context (weather records) information at ThreadEx stations is now available on NBM displays for maximum temperature, minimum temperature, and total QPF for the CONUS and Alaska regions by using a new “WIC Records” toggle button. The highest Max and lowest Min temperature records are also shown on the hourly temperature plot. For other elements and other stations, the toggle button will not be selectable.

    • The width of the line for the GEFS Average has been increased similar to EMC’s Plumes page.

Bug Fixes:

  • Map Display:

    • Resolved issue causing browser sessions to hang

    • NBM v4.1 contours now display

    • NBM v4.1 Oceanic grid-based wind barbs now display

    • Fixed occasional lines of missing data in NBM Daily Total QPF imagery

    • Fixed accidental omission of the following NBM elements:

      • MaxRef (Hawaii and Puerto Rico)

      • PQPF06 Mean, PQPF12 Mean, and PQPF24 Mean (Oceanic)

  • Point Vis:

    • Fixed skewing of vertical line in the top chart that corresponds to the date/time of the wind rose and violin plots when in dprog/dt mode

    • Corrected issue where zoom box wasn’t displaying when zooming in on a particular chart. Also applied a zoom button in the chart area for easier navigation.

  • NBM 1D:

    • Bookmarks now working for custom locations
