Development of an objective consolidation tool for CPC's Weeks 3-4 temperature and precipitation outlooks - November VLab Forum

VLab Forum Members,

The November VLab Forum will occur on Wednesday, December 1st at 3:35 – 4:35pm (Eastern Time). The talk features a presentation by Daniel Harnos titled "Development of an objective consolidation tool for CPC's Weeks 3-4 temperature and precipitation outlooks". We hope you can attend.

To participate in the forum, please register for the webinar.

Abstract:

This talk will introduce the Climate Prediction Center's Weeks 3-4 probabilistic forecasts of 2-meter temperature and precipitation while also providing a brief overview of the associated dynamical and empirical-based guidance used in the generation of these outlooks. Work relating to efforts to maximize the resultant forecast skill from objective blending of the associated inputs in an efficient manner will be detailed. Independent validation reveals limited opportunities for objective blends of forecast guidance to improve upon an initial "first guess" available to the forecaster based on inputs weighted subjectively based on forecaster experiences.

Agenda:

You can find the agenda for the Forum at the following link:

Talk Focus and R2O State:

  • NWS Talk focuses mainly on the status of an existing R2O project
  • Field Innovation (early stage work being done in NWS field offices)
