TOWR-S RPM v22 Feature: Gridded NUCAPS
April 6, 2022
Q. What is new with Gridded NUCAPS?
A: There are three adjustments to the Gridded NUCAPS products in AWIPS with TOWR-S RPM version 22.
- Precipitable water is now displayed in units of inches, rather than centimeters.
- 2 Meter Temperature is now in degrees Fahrenheit, rather than Kelvin.
- The Haines Index is now available in 3 layers, rather than 1. The layers are categorized by pressure level - Low (950-850 mb), Middle (850-700 mb), and High (700-500 mb).
More information about the JPSS NUCAPS data can be found in this TOWR-S Dataset Guide, and in this Quick Guide.
Q. How do I get the updated Gridded NUCAPS products in AWIPS?
A: The legend is a feature of TOWR-S RPM Version 22 (released Feb 8, 2022), which is available for AWIPS at Weather Forecast Offices and River Forecast Centers. Upon installing the RPM, go to Satellite, S-NPP and NOAA-20, Gridded NUCAPS, and select your product. Click here for instructions on installing TOWR-S RPM Version 22.
