Within the VLab portal it is possible for an administrator to create advanced web content. What is meant by "advanced web content"? By default web content has a title and content (WYSIWYG/html editor). LifeRay allows you to create new structure to collect additional information (e.g. additional fields) from an admistrator or web content provider. The portal also allows the admistrator to create a template file associated with this new web content structure that displays the collected data however you would like. The templates can be written in Velocity, XSL, FreeMarker Template Language, or CSS.
I recommend that you look at the following section of the user guide:
http://www.liferay.com/documentation/liferay-portal/6.1/user-guide/-/ai/advanced-content-with-structures-and-templat-1
Please be aware that there is a nicer editor for the structures available via the asset publisher portlet. The asset publisher web content structure editor contains a drag and drop type interface that is much easier to use than the one found within the "web content" section of the control panel.
If you have any questions please ask Ken or Mike.
