Model crash using super-period

Youngling Posts: 95 Join Date: 3/31/16 Recent Posts

Hey all,

I am attempting to use a super-period to represent my recreational (fleet 6 in the attached) catch. I'm not sure if that is what is causing the model to crash, but everything seems to be reading in OK according to the echoinput file. I would appreciate if someone wouldn't mind taking quick look and seeing if they can identify the issue as I am stuck.

Thanks in advance for your time!

Cheers,

Laura

Hi Laura,

I will confess that I use data super-periods very little. However, my understanding of them was that they were a way to combine observations across subsequent periods.  The combined observations are then compared to the internal model expectations for that data source.  Based on that I would not consider catches to be an observational data type similar to indices, length compositions, or age compositions.  Looking at the echoinput file it does appear that SS is crashing when trying to read and interpret the catches.  I suspect this is because catches cannot be treated this way internally within SS.  I may be wrong but this is my intuition as to what may be going on.   Additionally, the first line for the recreational catches, the -999 pre-model catch line, is indexing fleet 1 rather than fleet 6.

Thanks Chantel.

Catch super-years is not an option in Stock Synthesis.  It would be very difficult to implement such a concept, although I could imagine a situation in which it would be useful.
