Questions on finalize/removing winter/preselecting parms

Hi, all! WFO Raleigh is just starting to get into ForecastBuilder. I just finished the 7.1 installation and configuration. I know that many offices have been using it for many years now, so apologies if these questions are pretty basic knowledge :-) ...
  • What exactly gets done during the "finalize" process? I couldn't find any reference specific to this step, but perhaps I overlooked it.
  • Is there an easy option to remove all winter weather references? Since we only need these for roughly half the year, it would be nice if these steps could be set aside for the summer, to reduce processing time and effort.
  • Is there a way to pre-select what grids you'd like to populate in Step 2? We'd like to have some basic grids already selected, but not all of them (as we're easing the staff into the FB concept).
Also, just FYI, there is a typo in the ForecastBuilder and ForecastBuilderUtility files -- "separater" which should be "separator".

Thanks so much for any help you can give!

Hi Gail,

  • The "Finalize" process checks for all internal grid consistencies (e.g. Max/Min T vs Hourly T, Td <=T, Wind gust>wind, QPF/Pop checks, etc.)
  • At this time, FB runs through the PotRain/Snow, and snow/ice accum grids pretty quick, so probably wouldn't be a huge time saver. That said, I could see that being a config item - you'd just have to remember to turn it back on.
  • There's flexibility set into Step 2, but I'm not aware of a way to configure a predetermined set of grids to select.

Thanks for your questions.  If you need further details I would recommend contacting Andy Just.
