Issues when using Anonymous FTP

NOAA CoastWatch has recently enabled HTTPS for access to many datasets.  We have received several reports of occasional disconnects when using anonymous FTP:

  • FTP clients may exhibit disconnects when changing directories
  • Programmatic access may receive an End-of-File when retrieving a listing

The issue is under investigation,  but the following may assist in resolving data access issues.

1.  Switch from 'ftpcoastwatch.noaa.gov'  to 'ftp.star.nesdis.noaa.gov.'  Paths remain the same.

or,

2.  Switch from using FTP to HTTPS.  Replace with 'ftp.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub' with 'https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub'  and append the appropriate data path.

Anonymous FTP access requires username='anonymous' and password='email'
