Welcome

Welcome to the RTMA/URMA VLab community!

The purpose of this community is to facilitate feedback and discussion on the RTMA/URMA system.

Meeting notes are available under the Google Drive Folder linked above.

To learn more about our next upgrade, see the asset publication below.

Use the System Overview to learn more about the system in general.

Use the forum to ask questions about the system and join the discussion with other users and the development team.

Note that there are two forums: one for precipitation issues and one for all other variables.

You can post to the precip issues forum by sending an email to qpe.rtma.urma.feedback.vlab@noaa.gov.  For all other issues, you can post by sending an email to rtma.feedback.vlab@noaa.gov.  Please note that you must have a user account to post to the forum.  If you do not have an account, please contact matthew.t.morris@noaa.gov.

We recently added the ability for NWS Regional or WFO personnel to request that stations be removed from the analysis.  To access this, click on the "Station Reject Lists and Requests" tab.

There has been recent interest in knowing exact station locations, especially those of METAR sites.  Our METAR information table is under the "METAR Location Info" tab.

Users may also be interested in the National Blend of Models VLab community.

We appreciate any feedback on how this page or community could be improved.  You can submit such feedback via the above email handle or forum.

[aor-rtma] additions of sites to URMA Time Series?

Hi All:

Is there a chance to add more stations that can be displayed in the URMA Time Series at this site?  If so, what stations are available?

https://www.emc.ncep.noaa.gov/mmb/rtma/prod_ts/urma/rtma.html

Thanks,

Brett McDonald

Hi Brett,

Yes, we are able to add additional surface stations (METAR, mesonet, etc.) to the URMA time series page on a limited basis.  The only requirement is that the stations must be stationary (i.e., no ship reports).  Please let me know which stations you would like to have added to the webpage.

Thanks,
Matt

Hi Brett,

The URMA time series page has been updated to include all but two of the stations you've requested.  The time series for the newly added stations will take a week to fully populate.

We do not appear to be receiving observations at NCEP from two of the listed stations (KHSG and K46U).  We are looking into this issue.

Thanks,
Matt

[aor-rtma] additions of sites to URMA Time Series?

Youngling Posts: 12 Join Date: 9/24/12 Recent Posts
Thanks Matt!  That's fantastic!  Thanks for looking into the two sites.  K46U has been around for a while.  KHSG started up about two years ago - a new AWOS at a new airport.  There are already 3 sites where wind speeds are not getting used: KREC, CKWW4, and WY47.

Could you also add KBVR, CAMW4, KHLD, and RSNW4?

Brett

Hi Brett,

Observations from the two missing stations (K46U and KHSG) are now being assimilated in RTMA/URMA.  The change took effect yesterday at 15Z.  These two stations have now been added to the URMA time series page.

In short, these stations used to report under MesoWest: NWS/FAA and NonFedAWOS, both mesonet providers, resulting in double assimilation of these observations.  Such stations were removed from the MesoWest feed to address this issue, but a recent issue with the NonFedAWOS feed caused the data to be missing entirely.  The stations have been added back to the MesoWest feed in the meantime.

Thanks,
Matt
