Upcoming update to RTMA/URMA/RTMA-RU land/sea mask

Hi All:

A new version of RTMA/URMA/RTMA-RU will be implemented in the next few weeks to update the land/sea mask used in the downscaling procedure.  The update is primarily being made to address a reduction in the size of Great Salt Lake.

A web graphics page for our test RTMA/URMA/RTMA-RU parallel can be found here.  Domains zoomed in on Great Salt Lake and the San Francisco Bay have been added under "GSL" and "SanFran", respectively.

The code changes will be submitted to NCO in the next several days and it is our hope that the updates will be implemented in the next several weeks.

Please let us know if you have any questions or comments.

Thanks,
-Matt

Hi All:

Due to feedback received from the San Francisco Bay Area WFO, the experimental land/sea mask was updated to revert a pixel near the San Francisco Bay from water to land, which matches the land/sea mask currently used in operations.  The revised mask, which addresses a reduction in the size of Great Salt Lake, is being tested in a RTMA/URMA/RTMA-RU parallel.  A web graphics page for this parallel can be found here.

The code changes were submitted to NCO last week, with the goal being to implement the updated mask in the next several weeks.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Matt

Hi All:

A new version of RTMA/URMA/RTMA-RU was implemented yesterday at 12Z in order to update the land/sea mask used in the downscaling procedure, specifically to address a reduction in the size of Great Salt Lake.

Please let us know if you have any questions or comments.

Thanks,
Matt
