National & Local RPS Lists

On your local AWIPS, there are two types of RPS lists that impact the products it receives.

The first type of list is known as the National RPS List. The national list contains a standardized group of products that all WSR-88D products should generate every volume scan depending on which volume scan is currently in use. One product list applies to all clear air VCPs while the other list applies to all precipitation VCPs. In general, all products on the national RPS List will be made available in real-time to your local office, sent for central collection at the National Center for Environmental Information (NCEI), and made available to all other offices for download over the Satellite Broadcast Network (SBN). (NOTE: The primary exceptions to this will be Base Reflectivity and Velocity products where standard, 8-bit products are sent to NCEI for archiving but super-resolution products are made available to your office and sent over the SBN.) The National RPS List files should never be edited by your local office. You can see the products on the current national lists on VLab (https://vlab.noaa.gov/svn/awips-ndm/trunk/).

The second type of list is your local RPS list. These lists supplement the national lists by allowing your office to ask for a custom set of products for use in your office. You can edit your local RPS list via a GUI in CAVE or in any Linux text editor. However, there are several important details regarding your local RPS lists that will determine if your edits will be temporary or permanent. We will cover those details on the Building Your Local RPS List page.
