The 47th Climate Diagnostics and Prediction Workshop (CDPW) Digest is now live! This year’s Digest showcases 18 extended abstracts from 16 authors that presented at the 2022 CDPW. Hosted by the Utah Climate Center at Utah State University in Logan, Utah, the 47th CDPW was held from October 25-27, 2022, and was co-sponsored by the Climate Prediction Center (CPC), the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP), and the Climate Services Branch (CSB) of the National Weather Service (NWS) -

During the week of April 16, 2023, NWS OSTI Director Steve Smith and NWS Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences (SBES) Director Ji Sun Lee, among other STI leadership, toured various Central Region (CR) offices/facilities. The OPG hosted the Probabilistic Think Tank from 7–10 November 2022. During the 3 ½ day think tank, our participants generated ideas the OPG plans to evaluate focused on probabilistic operational workflows, data or visualization needs, and end user communication strategies. -

OPG Conducts Evaluation of Tornado Intensity Estimates in Real Time
The OPG conducted a multi day evaluation in July, 2022 where forecasters attempted to estimate tornado strength in real time using a new methodology and web based tool developed by SPC. -

Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences Program
In December 2021, the NWS Executive Council (EC) directed OSTI to align Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences as a program under the STI portfolio. Jennifer Sprague-Hilderbrand is appointed to serve as the Acting Social, Behavioral and Economic Science (SBES) Program Manager. -

OPG Conducts Mesoscale Analysis Experiment in Real Time
In May, 2021, the OPG enlisted the help of 16 subject matter experts to conduct a real time mesoscale analysis experiment with 61 forecasters. Forecasters, in groups of 20, joined the experiment for two consecutive days for about 4 hours each day. They worked collaboratively with the subject matter experts to analyze the mesoscale environment and predict where new convection, severe convection, or decreasing convection would occur in the 1 to 6 hour forecast period.
