    Almost 20 years after their first participation in the Olympics, the National Weather Service got another opportunity in 1980 when the Winter Games returned to the US. However, an atypical lack of snow in the region leading up to the Games presented extreme challenges for meteorologists and athletes alike.   • Wreckage of Delta Air Lines Flight 191, a Lockheed L-1011 that crashed near Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport on August 2, 1985. The aircraft, a Lockheed L-1011, encountered a severe microburst during a thunderstorm, which caused it to impact the ground and a water tank before breaking apart. The crash killed 137 people and prompted significant changes in wind shear detection and pilot training.
