Thank you Mike and Matt for that information! That will be great once we go away with the adjectives as it will clarify any confusion. Do you happen to know when the AWIPS LSR application will no longer be operational? The last I heard was sometime soon.
Thanks,
Nicole

Hi Nicole,
No, there isn't at the moment. However, so far as I'm aware, the event types and sources will be updated soon. I expect that
the adjectives in the event types will go away. Greg Schoor can clarify. The backstory is that we've been stuck on the same types and sources
because the AWIPS LSR application was the one deemed 'operational', but, there was no one to support or modify it. That will change
soon. Offices will either use IRIS or Eclairs as their LSR application (with the other as backup). Matthew Kamrar, the Eclairs developer and I as the IRIS developer are working to ensure the two systems sync their databases. Once that is done, Matthew and I will be able to update all the event types and sources, which will allow our directives to be updated and modernized as well in that respect.
Thanks,
Matt
Nicole,
I do not know of any way to automatically categorize reports in this manner. We will see if Matt has any additional information to provide.
Thanks,
ms
Mike & Matt,
We had a question come up in the office regarding snowfall reports and how they get categorized as snow vs. heavy snow. Is there a way we can locally configure auto ingested reports to be deemed as "heavy snow" if the total is greater than say 5.5"? If so, are there instructions on how to do this?
Thank you,
Nicole

I mentioned this to Alex and he said to email the team so you could look into it with your IRIS contacts.
Can we configure "LSR Type" at the office level so that when a snowfall report > 5.5" is ingested, it will show "Heavy Snow" instead of "Snow".
It can be changed manually for each report, but that creates a lot of headaches since each time new reports are fetched the original shows up again. For this event I ended up just leaving the original "Snow" report because my head might have exploded if I had to change or delete reports before sending every LSR!
Thanks for looking into this and let me know if you have any questions.
