Wind/Wind Gust Error for Day 7

Youngling Posts: 4 Join Date: 9/24/12 Recent Posts

I am getting an error similar to one marked resolved by Andy J. on Dec. 5, 17.  I get an error similar to "Wind grid not found for time range xxxx" (more info below).

We are running FB 5.07 (11/16/17) and have a ForecastBuilderUtility from Dec. 5.   This only happens when I choose to run through "Day 7".

The error occurs during the "Integrity check" step (between steps #3 and #4?).  More info....

During step: "Finalizing...i.e. ensuring F G Integrity, etc."

Chris,

Sorry for the late reply, I did not see the forum notification in the mountain of email over the holidays.  I am not really familiar with this error, but will forward it around to the rest of the group and see if someone can give you an answer.

Hi Chris,

Is this an error that occurs often or did it just occur this one time?

When the error occurred did you start with Step 2 and have Wind populated?

If it possible the Winds grids were manually saved while they were being interpolated? Or was any other action occurring to the grids while the ForecastBuilder was still populating the grids in Step 2?

Thanks for the additional information which will help us figure out the exact cause of the issue.

Eric

Eric,

Couple of things possible associated with this.  I was able to run step 2 onward and day 1 through Day 7 today, without the same exact error. It was repeatable last week.  I was having some other strange errors with GFE last week, and I ended up deleting my caveData.  Not sure exactly what happened.

Let's table this for now.  I will keep testing, and see if I can get a systematic issue to return (hopefully not).  Thanks for your help.

Chris,

I can replicate this error here at CRH.  However, it's really baffling me and goes beyond Wind.  The only time it applies to is 00Z day 8, utilizing NBM as the MainModel, and running through ForecastBuilder (not ForecastBuilder_CRON).  In the Foundation Grids step, if I choose for example Td for Days 6 - 7, I don't get the 00Z day 8 grid populated. Doing some diagnostics immediately prior to the creation of the grid, I can confirm:

  • I have NBM data loaded into memory for 00Z day 8
  • It is going to output to the 00Z day 8 grid
  • I can compute and state the maximum value of that 00Z day 8 grid in memory
  • I can retrieve the size of that 00Z day 8 grid, which matches all other sizes
  • There are no errors with the "createGrid" statement

Now I will say we are experiencing sluggishness on our system that ASM is looking into, but I wouldn't think that should be the issue.  Interesting to hear that you cannot repeat it after deleting caveData. Maybe something I should try and see what happens.

Okay, got the problem resolved. It's really a feature of switching between SuperBlend to NBM and my procedure to load in "ShortBlend" - which gets changed to NBM and really is not needed. During that portion of code to load in "ShortBlend" a deletion occurs to the last grid for interpolation purposes, which is what you and I were seeing with Wind, Td, etc.  And it applies more than to just 00z day 8. If you did day 4-5, the 00Z day 6 grid would be deleted.  And again this only applies via the ForecastBuilder procedure, not the cron, because the load in ShortBlend only happens via the ForecastBuilder procedure.

Long story short, I will fix this problem by not calling "ShortBlend" check when utilizing NBM.

Andy,  One more image that might be related to what you are describing.  As you stated, when I run ForecastBuilder manually, some elements don't end up with a day 8 00z grid.  You can see that on the grid manager on the uploaded image (Wind3_Complete.png).  The last three apparent temperature grids were left over from the CRON run.
