Welcome

Welcome to the RTMA/URMA VLab community!

The purpose of this community is to facilitate feedback and discussion on the RTMA/URMA system.

Meeting notes are available under the Google Drive Folder linked above.

To learn more about our next upgrade, see the asset publication below.

Use the System Overview to learn more about the system in general.

Use the forum to ask questions about the system and join the discussion with other users and the development team.

Note that there are two forums: one for precipitation issues and one for all other variables.

You can post to the precip issues forum by sending an email to qpe.rtma.urma.feedback.vlab@noaa.gov.  For all other issues, you can post by sending an email to rtma.feedback.vlab@noaa.gov.  Please note that you must have a user account to post to the forum.  If you do not have an account, please contact matthew.t.morris@noaa.gov.

We recently added the ability for NWS Regional or WFO personnel to request that stations be removed from the analysis.  To access this, click on the "Station Reject Lists and Requests" tab.

There has been recent interest in knowing exact station locations, especially those of METAR sites.  Our METAR information table is under the "METAR Location Info" tab.

Users may also be interested in the National Blend of Models VLab community.

We appreciate any feedback on how this page or community could be improved.  You can submit such feedback via the above email handle or forum.

Victor,

LTNA98 KWBR is the header for RTMA temperature on the NWRFC grid.
LTRA98 KWBR is the header for URMA temperature on the NWRFC grid.

You might be able to get RTMA data from NCEI, but I know for a fact they don't have URMA data.

Hi List,

We are trying to put together a dataset of the NWRFC RTMA 1hr 2m T's for a study we want to do.  We've heard EMC does not archive the data, and NCEI doesn't have an operational database of the data. It looks like NCEI might have our RTMA data saved daily on their NOMADS site:

It would be a lot of work to pull what we want from the site, but NCEI said they might be able to pull monthly chunks we could sort.

To help us find what we are looking for, does anyone on the list know the specific WMO header for the NWRFC RTMA temperature analysis?   Thanks! -Victor

Thank you Jamie

Yes, this server and the NDFD one has bounced emails lately.

Alex,

I've been experiencing problems sending this message to the listserver, so am copying you directly also.....

Yes, the National Climatic Data Center maintains an archive of the operational RTMA.

I do not have information about the archive of the GMOS, however recommend you contact Kathryn.Gilbert@noaa.gov for assistance.

The RTMA archived data are available from the NOAA National Operational Model Archive and Distribution System (NOMADS) at:    http://nomads.ncdc.noaa.gov/

Please use these instructions:

For the RTMA prior to October 5, 2008:

1)  Select the link "Access" under the heading "Data"  (Left side of NOMADS header page.)
2)  Select the link "RTMA" under the heading "Quick Access Links."
3)  Data can be ordered either by single selected days  OR in bulk.
4)  For single days: Available from June 6, 2004 through October 5, 2008. Use calendar boxes.
For bulk order:   Check the bulk order box.

For the RTMA after October 5,  2008:
1)   Refer to instructions and links under the header "Important Notifications"  (same page as above).
The links point to data directories and to product descriptions.

2)  To access the archived RTMA, you will need to know the WMO headers for the RTMA parameters and domains:

WMO HEADING     RTMA PARAMETERS

LT*A98 KWBR     temperature analysis

LT*A98 KWBR     temperature analysis uncertainty

LR*A98 KWBR     dewpoint temperature analysis

LR*A98 KWBR     dewpoint temperature analysis uncertainty

LN*A98 KWBR     wind speed analysis

LN*A98 KWBR     wind speed analysis uncertainty

LN*A98 KWBR     wind direction analysis

LN*A98 KWBR     wind direction analysis uncertainty

LU*A98 KWBR     u wind component analysis (NOAAPORT ONLY)

LV *A98 KWBR     v wind component analysis (NOAAPORT ONLY)

LP*A98 KWBR     surface pressure analysis
LP*A98 KWBR     surface pressure analysis uncertainty
LH*A98 KWBR     RTMA model terrain height

LEMA98 KWBR     Accumulated precipitation (5km for CONUS only)

LEIA98 KWBR     Accumulated precipitation (2.5km for CONUS only)

LAMA98 KWBR     GOES effective cloud amount (CONUS only)

Where * is A for Alaska , C for Puerto Rico, G for Guam, H for Hawaii , I for 2.5km CONUS, M for 5km CONUS.

Please let me know if you have any questions about the RTMA archive.

Thank you, Jamie

Does anyone know if there is an archive (FTP or similar) of
2.5 km RTMA and or 2.5 km or 5 km GMOS datasets.

Thanks!
