v4.1 Upper Air fields

Great new update.

Thanks for the Tips/Tricks addition to know that one must use the Global domain choice to view these new Upper Air fields.

  1. Select NBM v4.1 and domain Global to view NBM upper air fields

I take it these Upper Air fields are just the averages from ALL the model inputs used per forecast projection?

There are 100 inputs to the 50km Global Upper Air Domain for NBM.   50 ECMWFE, 30 GEFS, 20 GEPS.   These are not equally weighted.  The GDAS analysis is used just like core NBM uses URMA to look at MAE, then bias correct each member, and then dynamically weight them based on the inverse of the MAE to GDAS.   The only exception will be wind direction when it comes on line, as it will be an equal weight of the U and V components.

Thanks Jeff.

I just toggled over from 500 Temp to 850 Temp, and despite it saying "contours: unavailable" in upper right, something's been contoured!?

Thanks for catching this bug, Jack. I'll look into it tomorrow morning.

Cheers,

Jack,

It looks like the 850 mb height contours failed to display when you switched from Temp 500 to Temp 850. I'm not sure why this occurred, but could be due to web server load associated with increased traffic following yesterday's WSUP release. Although the failure was noted in the legend ("Contours: Unavailable"), the viewer was still displaying the original 500 mb contours, which is certainly confusing for users!

This has been fixed and a patch has been pushed to the WSUP Viewer. We're now doing a better job of identifying when imagery fails to load and when this occurs, clearing out any old imagery. Please let us know if you encounter any additional issues.

Cheers,
Kevin
