WSUP Viewer v3.1 was released on 4/29/2021. Please see version notes below.

New Features:

  • Developmental NBM v4.1 is now available in Map Display, NBM 1D, and Point Vis

  • Map Display:

    • Added Auto Update option for when the viewer is in Latest mode. If the option box is checked, new imagery will automatically load as it becomes available.

    • Revamped MSLP color table to conform with standard colors for labeling low pressure (L) and high pressure (H) centers on weather maps. Low pressure is shaded red, high pressure is shaded blue, and standard pressure (1014mb) is now neutral white. NBM MSLP is available for the Oceanic domain only.

    • Additional elements:

    • When the contours layer is selected, the primary field is now shown for NBM Standard Deviation elements (same as for GEFS).

  • NBM 1D:

    • Additional elements:

      • Thunderstorm 1, 3, and 6 hour probabilities

      • Dry Thunderstorm 3 hour probability

      • CWASP threshold probabilities

      • Visibility threshold probabilities

      • Ceiling threshold probabilities

      • Maximum and Minimum Temperature threshold probabilities

  • Point Vis:

    • The number of NBM QPF components shown have been increased for NBM v4.1

    • New GEFS Bias-Corrected elements:

      • Mean Sea Level Pressure

      • 10-m Wind Speed

      • Upper Air:

        • Wind Speed (925mb, 850mb, 700mb)

        • Thickness (1000-500mb, 850-700mb)

    • New GEFS Raw Elements (includes all 30 members):

      • Temperature

      • Maximum and Minimum Temperature

      • Mean Sea Level Pressure

      • Relative Humidity

      • 10-m Wind Speed

      • Accumulated QPF

      • Precipitable Water

      • Precipitation Type

      • Snow Liquid Equivalent and Total Snow Liquid Equivalent

      • Sfc-based CAPE and CIN

      • Shear Magnitude

      • Upper Air:

        • Temperature (925mb, 850mb, 700mb)

        • Wind Speed (925mb, 850mb, 700mb)

        • Thickness (1000-500mb, 850-700mb)

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed a processing issue causing data for the NBM Oceanic domain 10-m Wind Speed 10th percentile element to be unavailable

  • NBM Wind Speed SD and Wind Gust SD are now in knots instead of m/s

  • Map Display:

    • Added missing station (K3A1; Cullman, AL)

    • NBM QPF12 and QPF24 are now clearly labeled as PQPF QMD Means rather than deterministic elements.

  • NBM 1D

    • Valid times (width and placement) of MaxT and MinT boxes now display properly

    • Style of map buttons now reflects dark mode in the same manner as the rest of the page

    • Colors used in the Ptype graph now change based upon the Alternate Color Scheme toggle button

    • NBM Temp, MaxT, MinT, and Dew Point SD elements are now displayed in degrees F instead of degrees C

  • Point Vis:

    • None

Known Issues:

  • Map Display:

    • Southern hemisphere grid-based wind barbs are drawn with flags on the same side of the arm as in the northern hemisphere.

    • NBM v4.1 ceiling probabilities of < 2kft and <= 6.5kft and visibility probabilities for  <2mi have fewer available projections than other categories for these elements.

  • Point Vis:

    • In dProg/dt mode, the vertical line in the top chart that corresponds to the date/time of the wind rose and violin plots will become skewed at times. Moving the bottom slider will return the line to vertical.

  • 1D:

    • Forecast selection menus on 1D (and Point Vis) do not update available model cycle times without manually refreshing the page

    • Only predefined points have observed data. We will look at including RTMA observations for grid points in a future release.

    • There is currently no way to save custom points for future use other than to bookmark the URL
