ForecastBuilder Service Backup Overwriting ISC Grids

Today we were testing running ForecastBuilder for one of our backup sites. Our plan was just to test to ensure the process was working how it is intended to in the event we have a prolonged backup situation.  We did not publish or anything but the auto-saving that happens between steps seems to over-write what is in the ISC database for that office. So neighbors of that office think they have changed their forecast when really we are just testing something. Seems like this is easily changed by having the office just re-save all their grids.

Not sure if there is really a way around that issue when testing, but I wanted to make people aware since many others may be testing backup capabilities in the coming days.

Anyone else have any comments or best practices as it pertains to ForecastBuilder while in backup mode?

Ryan, when you started service backup, did you select "Troubleshoot Mode"?  I believe this mode will prevent you from sending any ISC grids or updating the Active VTEC table, but perhaps I'm misunderstanding it.

Well that is a face palm moment, thanks Ron. That seems like a rather obvious thing I should have somewhere in my instructions. I never looked at those toggles that closely to be honest and our local documentation doesn't say to do that, but sure enough in the help menu within the GUI that is exactly what that mode does. I'll be sure to highlight that in our local instructions.

Ryan,

I actually deal with this all the time at CRH because we operate an EAX domain.  What I always do is in the normal ForecastBuilder procedure, underneath the Consistency menu turn off ISC Send Enable.    Unfortunately with the cron there is not much you can do if run from command line / cron.  Therefore I always have the cron go to a PRACTICE database here.
