Partial ingest of ZiaMet station data

Youngling Posts: 3 Join Date: 6/11/14 Recent Posts

A forecaster at ABQ noticed that we are not receiving any precipitation data from our ZiaMet mesonet stations in IRIS. The stations are reporting all temperature and wind data in IRIS but not precipitation. These sites appear to be ingesting from MesoWest where the precipitation data is current. There are no issues with precipitation from the other non-ZiaMet stations ingesting from MesoWest. Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?

Hi Brian,

Would you mind providing an ID for one of the ZiaNet sites so I can research this?

Thanks,
Matt

Matt,

Thanks for getting back to me. Try TSCN5 (Tucumcari Ag Science Center in Quay County). This site received precipitation last Saturday, September 21, 2024.

Matt,

Good afternoon. I'm just following up to check if you were able to take a look at the issue with ZiaMet precip not being imported into IRIS. The site below received precip the past 6 hours but IRIS still shows no precip. It looks like this is occurring for all sites with the ID: NMC##

ID: NMC86
NAME: Raton
LATITUDE: 36.89709
LONGITUDE: -104.41846
ELEVATION: 6621 ft
MNET: NMCC

Hi Brian,

I just got a chance to look into this. It's clear that the provider is getting the data to Mesowest, but the Mesowest feed into MADIS does not have the precip accumulation field populated. You may want to reach out to MADIS or Mesowest on it, but note that IRIS is no longer being patched in anticipation of that functionality being incorporated into NWS Connect. At that point, early plans are to switch to the Synoptic API.

Thanks,
Matt
