ASOS/AWOS Precipitation Reports Too Low

Youngling Posts: 6 Join Date: 2/5/21 Recent Posts

Hi All.

I recently sent out a PNS for rainfall for our area (WFO Caribou). When I was doing my QC of the data, I noticed all of the ASOS/AWOS stations had rainfall reports that were too low. I had to manually edit the reports with the correct values.

Was wondering if there is a reason the reports are coming in too low or if there is anything I can do to fix the issue?

Thanks.

Hi Nathaniel,

What period of accumulation were you using?

Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,

I was using a 24 hour period.

Hi,

Was this ever resolved? We are having the same issues at the KRAH office this morning... both the 24 hour and 48 hour rainfall totals are too low for several ASOS sites (e.g. KBUY, KGSO, KINT) and it required manual editing of our PNS.

Thanks,

Nick Luchetti

Hi Nick,

No, it wasn't corrected, but we're moving IRIS to NWS Connect, and this will be repaired at that time.

Thanks,
Matt

Hey Matt,

No worries, thanks for the quick reply and clarification. Is there any updated timeline on when NWS Connect will go live?

Thanks,

Nick Luchetti
