CDC SVI

Hi all,

You may have noted that the v6 release includes theme data layers from the CDC's Social Vulnerability Index. If this is something that you find useful/interesting/applicable I'd be interested in hearing about how you are (or are thinking about) using it.

Thanks,

Jacob

Jacob,

Great idea to incorporate this but the resolution appears limited to whole counties -- which is too coarse to be useful in a CWA like mine (MTR).

Thanks,

Warren

P.S. Unrelated but couldn't get the Fire Perimeter Overlay to display.

Warren,

Thanks for the feedback.

The SVI from the CDC comes in two flavors: counties or census tracts.   The census tracts are detailed, voluminous, and slower-to-load.

You can view census tract data by going to zoom level 8 at https://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/placeandhealth/svi/interactive_map.html and changing the Geographic Unit.

If we were to make the SVI available as Census Tracts, would you use them in WSUP?

Dave,

Good question.  Hunch is that at some point in the future we would, but probably not in the nearer-term.

Thanks,

Warren

Also - thanks for pointing out the problem with the Fire Perimeter Overlay.    That's now been fixed.
