Creating Hourlies w/o Modifying Min/Max Grids

Hi,

The issue has been raised about "DeriveHourlyTandRHfromMaxMin" in Analyze/Adjust. As the tool runs, the hourlies are created, then there's feedback at the bottom regarding pink, orange or blue grids and where hourlies depart from the Min Max grids by more than 3 degrees. We simpy don't want the MinT/MaxT modified in this step. Is it possible to adjust only the hourlies?

I have viewed the updated FB training here  and video (https://youtu.be/TVLEbVN17ew) and it seems to imply there's no way around this in FB, that, when you move to the next step, some Min/Max grids will be modified to preserve the integrity. But it also states that the highlights are just awareness highlights and that you don't actually need to make the adjustments.

We may prefer to limit the T and RH grids to the Min and Max values.  What's the easiest method to use FB's hourly T and RH creation, and not modify the MinT/MaxT and MinRH/MaxRH grids?

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

The Derive Hourly T and RH from Max/Min tool will not touch your MaxT or MinT grids. The integrity step will adjust MaxT/MinT if your hourlies are higher/lower, but I believe the only way the hourlies would be more extreme than your MaxT and MinT grids is due to your locally selected interpolation algorithm. If you're using a cubic interpolation for T, then there could be times between the 3 hourly grids populated by ForecastBuilder that T goes above or below the max or min. Perhaps Some others in the tech group have other theories...

Thanks!

I have noticed this too. Let's say it is 11a and I want to adjust MaxT. All of the previous hours have been populated with RTMA, as out MaxT forecast is too warm. Then I want to use the NBMMaxT10Percentile grid for MaxT. When using the "Diurnal" tool in FB as described above, it doesn't analyze the previous hourly RTMA T grids when recreating the diurnal. The old diurnal tool had this capability. Am I missing something?
