WSUP Viewer v2.2 Release

WSUP Viewer v2.2 was released on 10/29/2020. Please see version notes below.

New Features:

  • Map Display:

    • Added optional NBM 10-m wind barbs data overlay.  Two display modes are available when this overlay is selected: The “Wind fields only” toggle switch in the “On” position shows wind barbs on wind elements only.  If the toggle switch is “Off”, wind barbs will load when any hourly element is displayed.

    • A shape drawing option is now available to highlight areas of uncertainty or special interest on the map.

    • Added Transport Wind Direction NBM element.

    • Color bars now show proper labels for categorical elements (Wx, Wind Dir, LL Turbulence, and Freezing Spray)

    • Updated Wave Height color scale to better highlight the lower end of the scale and to be consistent with digital.mdl.nws.noaa.gov.

    • The spinning wheel now displays until all data overlays have loaded (element, points, contours, and/or wind barbs). Previously, the wheel would hide once the element overlay finished loading.

  • Point Vis:

    • A dProg/dt mode has been added. This enables users to see how each component or member has changed leading up to a selected valid time. Once in dProg/dt mode (activated using an On/Off toggle switch), the valid time can be selected via the vertical slider or by using the left and right arrows on the keyboard. The valid time can also be initially selected by utilizing the horizontal slider before activating dProg/dt mode.

    • For NBM, line colors are now tied to specific models across all charts.

    • The wind rose now shows a percentage of members/components as opposed to a numerical count.

    • NBM MaxT and MinT components now contain only one value ending at 06Z or 18Z each day which represents the max or min used in the NBM calculation.

    • MaxT and MinT lines are now rectangular to better reflect the approximate valid period of these 18-h values.

    • Temperature graphs now include at-line and background shading to indicate temperatures at or below 32F.

    • Show closest data on hover is now the default on the top graph.   The data value and line for a particular member or component is shown by hovering the cursor over a data point on that line.   Values for all members or components can be seen by selecting compare data on hover.   Move the cursor to the upper right corner of the chart for the selection menu to appear.

  • The viewer now detects possible loss of ICAM authentication, which results in a failure for data to load. When triggered, the user is prompted to refresh their browser to reauthenticate.

Bug Fixes:

  • Map Display:

    • Lat/lon lines now display west of the dateline.

    • Reengineered data processing to avoid data failing to load when the WSUP viewer is in “Latest” mode.

    • Clicking the status bar in the upper-right corner now properly loads new probabilistic data while in Latest Mode.

    • The 2nd slider now offers the proper list of dProg/dt hours based upon the current projection. The projection hour in the legend now updates when a different dProg/dt hour is selected.

Known Issues:

  • None
